laughterThe definition of humour is quite simple, it is defined is the ability of people, objects, situations or words to evoke feelings of amusement or happiness in people. Simple as this definition may seem to be there are a lot of fundamental principles, styles and cultural differences that affect how people perceive humour. The evolution of humour is not something that we can pinpoint in history but can be observed throughout every culture’s history as a form of entertainment. The theory behind humour and what makes something funny is a matter of great debate involving psychologists, philosophers and linguists. Having a ‘sense of humour’ is also dependent on variables of personality, culture, mood, education and more. What has been established are some basic premises to the foundations of humour.

The internet is a great place to find all things realated to jokes and humour. Whether you are looking for a good joke to impress your friends with, maybe an online joke shop to pull a prank or a brilliant fancy dress costume, or even just a little something to make you laugh, you are sure to find something online.

The first is that humour occurs when there is a result to a situation or answer to a question which is different from the expected response. The second is to find humour in unfortunate circumstances, lack of intelligence, failure and such negative situations. The third is to find humour when a tense situation breaks though this is not an assured result as it is dependent on the individual’s perception of the situation. The theoretical methods of successful delivery are metaphor, hyperbole, reframing and timing. Some people say that humour is dependent on the unexpected and this is the reason that a joke is only funny the first time it is heard, while other say that humour cannot and should not be explained as to understand it would destroy it.
